Toll Brothers: Down the Memory Lane

The story of Toll Brothers is quite fascinating, much like its fantastic range of high-end homes. Robert Toll with a law degree and BA from Cornell and Bruce Toll with accounting background founded Toll Brothers in 1967 in southeastern Pennsylvania. Under the guidance of their homebuilder father, the Toll brothers started off by constructing two colonial-style homes.

1975 marked a new era for Toll Brothers as they entered the New York City real estate market. The homebuilder expanded to New Jersey in 1982 and two years later it sold the 1000th home.

In 1986, the Toll Brothers conducted a successful IPO and became a publicly-traded company with stock listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The company entered Delaware in 1987, Maryland in 1988, and Connecticut and Virginia in 1992.

In 1988, Toll Brothers was named the Builder of the Year by Professional Builder Magazine and by 1990; the company had become the largest luxury home builder in the US.

Over the years, Toll Brothers has acquired an array of other home construction companies, including Seattle-based CamWest Development in 2011, LA-based Shapell Industries in 2013, and Coleman Homes in 2016.
