David Weekley Homes: A Little History
David Weekley Homes began its journey in 1976 in Houston, Texas. It all started when David Weekley was forced to quit his job at a lucrative construction company because his principles were questioned.
At a ripe age of 23 years – and broke, David and his brother established a home building company with lots of ambition and little capital work with. Nonetheless, the small company burgeoned to become the largest privately-held homebuilder in America. Along the way, David Weekley Homes sought to redefine homebuilding.
By rethinking home building aspects like ceiling height, window size, and so forth, David Weekley started to stand out in a sea of competition because of its practical designs. When the oil and gas industry in Houston went bust in 1984, David Weekley Homes expanded its services area to include Dallas, a smart move that would ensure its existence.
John Johnson joined the company in 1989 as the CEO, and quickly extended David Weekley Homes reach to several cities in Arizona, Texas, Georgia, California, Colorado, Minnesota, Florida, and Denver to name a few.
