Taylor Morrison: A Little History

Taylor Morrison was established when two major homebuilders joined forces – Morrison Homes and Taylor Woodrow – in July 2007.

Taylor Woodrow, on the one hand, was founded by Jack Woodrow and Frank Taylor in 1921. The duo developed a pair of modest semi-detached homes at 349 and 347 Central Drive in Blackpool. Earlier in the 1920s, Frank Taylor’s company focused mainly on building high quality, affordable housing in the Lancashire region.

In the 1930s, Taylor Woodrow made a short foray into hospital building business. It acquired Monarch Development Corporation, officially entering Canadian home building market. Between the 1930s and 2007, the builder acquired a slew of home construction and related companies, including Monarch Mortgage and Investment Limited in 1953.

On the other hand, Morrison Homes was established in 1905 in Seattle by C G Morrison. In 1946, the company moved its headquarters to California to build homes for entry-level and midmarket homeowners in Phoenix, Jacksonville, Sarasota, Denver, and Austin to name a few.
